I have worked in the marine industry for over 40 years. As well as surveying I have also been involved in ship repair and ship construction. I am both an Incorporated Engineer and an Incorporated Marine Engineer and I am a Registered Marine Surveyor™.

I am a full Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and its Small Ships Group, and I am a full Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying, working to their Codes of Practice.

As well as a career in ships and shipping I have been messing about in boats since the age of twelve and have owned a number of boats, both power and sail. My current boat is a Beneteau Oceanis 311. Being a sailor myself provides me with a valuable insight into the ways of boats and boaters when it comes to surveying.

Pre-purchase Survey - This is an in depth appraisal of the whole boat, her systems and equipment. This will normally take at least a day and will require the boat to be ashore.
Insurance Survey - This is often required by insurance companies prior to providing cover or renewal on older boats. The scope is much the same as the pre-purchase survey but excludes the cosmetic aspect.
Valuations - Often included in the pre-purchase or insurance surveys, a survey for valuation on its own will be an appraisal of the general condition of the boat and a review of similar boats in the market.
Damage Survey - This will be a survey of an area of damage to ascertain extent of damage and means of repair.

I offer a prompt and professional yacht and small ship surveying service conducting condition surveys for pre-purchase, insurance, finance and damage on GRP/FRP, steel and aluminium construction on both sail and power craft. I aim to get the report out within four days of survey and I will advise immediately by email any areas of major concern that I might have.

I also offer partial surveys of specific aspects of a vessel, for instance hull below waterline only or hull, decks and internal bulkheads or one or more of the vessels systems etc. Or I can do a pre-inspection of a boat that you have identified as a possible candidate to provide you with a general impression of condition before you elect to travel to see it and commit to a full survey.

In addition I provide site supervision of new build steel craft and refurbishment projects.
